Pitru Paksha: The Most Auspicious Period

While Pind Daan can be performed on any day of the year in Gaya, the 16-day lunar period of Pitru Paksha (usually falling in September or October) is considered the most highly auspicious time.

Amavasya (New Moon day) of every month, especially Somvati Amavasya and Mahalaya Amavasya, are highly recommended for Shradh. Solar and Lunar eclipses are also considered powerful times to offer prayers to ancestors.
