1. Sankalp (Vow)
The ritual begins with the 'Sankalp', where the performer takes a vow taking the names of their ancestors, their Gotra, and the specific date, declaring their intention to perform the Shradh.
2. Tarpan
Tarpan involves offering water mixed with black sesame seeds, Kusha grass, and flowers to the ancestors at the Phalgu River to quench their spiritual thirst.
3. Offering of Pindas
Round balls made of rice flour and sesame seeds are prepared and offered to the ancestors on leaf plates. This represents feeding the ancestors.
4. Brahmin Bhoj
Feeding Brahmins (priests) and donating food, clothes, and Dakshina is a crucial final step. It is believed that whatever is given to the Brahmin reaches the ancestors.
