The Footprint of Lord Vishnu
The Vishnupad Temple, located on the banks of the Phalgu River, marks the exact spot where Lord Vishnu subdued the demon Gayasur by placing His right foot on his chest. The temple enshrines this sacred footprint (Dharmasila) imprinted in solid rock.
Architectural Marvel
The current structure of the temple was rebuilt by the Maratha queen, Ahilyabai Holkar of Indore, in 1787. Its beautiful architecture features an octagonal shrine and a 30-meter high tower.
Center of Shradh Rituals
Devotees from all over the world flock to the Vishnupad Temple. Offering Pindas (rice balls) on the sacred footprint is the ultimate goal of the Gaya Pilgrimage, ensuring liberation for generations of ancestors.
