Gaya is not just a city; it is a spiritual hub for those seeking peace for their ancestors. The name is derived from the demon Gayasur, whose body became as holy as the gods after a severe penance. Lord Vishnu blessed him, declaring that anyone performing Shradh on his body (the land of Gaya) would secure salvation for their ancestors.

The Phalgu River

The sacred Phalgu River, although mostly subterranean, holds immense purifying power. Tarpan (offering water) in the Phalgu river is considered highly meritorious.

Vishnupad Temple
